CaptureMia’s Upholstery is an artisan upholstery business based in Dublin. I provide upholstery service both domestic and commercial from my workshop. I work with all types of furniture, from sofas, chairs, couches and beyond and all of them are equally interesting.

What inspires me about upholstery is the new fresh feeling after it is recovered. When I get an old chair or sofa into my studio that is in need of new fabric, or a complete makeover, I find it amazing that with with springs, foam and fabric, you can have a completely new piece of furniture. It’s the transformation from an old, ragged chair into something new – it’s like the furniture stretched its back out, got a new life.

The attraction about upholstery for me is the combination of hard work and the fine delicate details. It require strength, delicacy and concentration, and I can really lose myself in my job.

As much as I love traditional upholstery; with the right fabric to period, I get really excited when I get my hands on an old chair and I get a chance use my imagination and get creative. Picking fabric that might not be expected, but never the less, flattering to the furniture.

I find that my customers are getting braver when it comes to colour on there furniture. And the idea of upcycling and restoring their old furniture and at the same time pick that fabric they always wanted. It’s a guilty pleasure. From an early age I had a fixation on fashion and design from the 50’s and 60’s retro and vintage, and it stuck with me in whatever I do in life.
